Why the Mac is so slow? How can I make it faster?

Part I of my Mac in 2004 and am thinking of replacing it, probably in the next year. I've noticed lately has begun to diminish. Is it because of all the pictures I have? (2355 photos) or music? (909 songs) I know I have a lot of garbage on this team and I have no idea how to clean up or make your computer run faster. The team has been lately I given that the symbol of the rainbow much. Applications take longer to load, and it seems that the computer can not handle that I have many applications open as before. Are there any you can buy software to make it go faster? All I can do? I have an external hard drive where 100 Gigabite also backup my photos. This is the information about my computer: Hardware Overview: Machine Name: PowerBook G4 15 "Machine Model: PowerBook5, 4 CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1) Number of CPUs: 1 CPU Speed: 1.5 GHz, L2 cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1 GB Bus Speed: 167 MHz Boot ROM Version: 4.8.6f0 Serial number: W843000YRGV

First Run the Application Help disk. (Must be in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder) and run Repair Permissions in it. Even run multiple times if you never did before. Concierge Run Mac (http://personalpages.tds.net/ ~ brian_hill / macjanitor.html) Run the cleaning procedures that normally only runs at night. (Mac OS X = Unix. Unix does its 'cleansing' during the night, but if the computer is off, never does) I hope this helps
